you're gonna sing the words wrong

I have completed my obligation as an Australian citizen and shortlisted my Triple J Hottest 100 selection. What a can of worms. It was hard enough to get it to 20 and felt impossible to get it below 13. I am frazzled and feel anxious I left something out but I did it people, and you can all breathe your sigh of relief!
My votes:
Arctic Monkeys - Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High?

Born Ruffians - Needle

Daft Punk - Lose Yourself To Dance

Disclosure - When A Fire Starts To Burn

Foals - My Number

RAC - Let Go {Ft. Kele; Mndr}

Rudimental - Waiting All Night {Ft. Ella Eyre}

RUFUS - Desert Night

Vampire Weekend - Step

Vance Joy - Riptide (I've used the youtube clip that I think should have been the official-how awesome is this chick?!)

My number one went to Vance Joy, he has had an amazing year and deserves the credit! My prediction for the top five is:
  1. Lorde - Royals;
  2. Daft Punk - Get Lucky;
  3. Arctic Monkeys - Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High?;
  4. Vance Joy - Riptide;
  5. Haim - The Wire (never really warmed to Haim...THERE I SAID IT!)

With lots of the Indie 'heavyweights' releasing albums and dominating my iPod this year there wasn't a lot of room for some gems in my top ten. I found it hard to leave these guys out so I'm throwing them on the end for your listening pleasure:
Max Frost - White Lies

Unknown Mortal Orchestra - So Good At Being In Trouble
(swooooon)

The Kite String Tangle - Given The Chance

Bring on Australia Day! Can't wait for the countdown to unravel with the accompanied debates- music geeks united! What did y'all vote for? Predictions? Life aspirations? Hit me...

  1. Great work Sars! There is nothing harder then trying to get down to your top 10. I found the hardest part this year was not including bands who I love but their songs didn't blow me away this year (see Arcade Fire) I struggled to get down from my top 16 BUT without further ado from 10-1....

    10. Royksopp - Running to the Sea
    9. Vampire Weekend - Unbelievers
    8. Preatures - Is this how you feel?
    7. Rufus - Tonight
    6. RAC Kele etc - Let Go
    5. Arctic Monkeys - Why'd you only call me when you're high
    4. Kanye West - Black Skinhead
    3. The National - Graceless
    2. Lorde - Team
    1. Vance Joy - Riptide

    Can't argue about Vance Joy - what a stellar year he's had!

  2. I had exactly the same problem - I just couldn't fit The National in, Arcade Fire had to be cut...stressful! You have done well numbering them - I was happy to just pick a number 1 and let the rest follow. What do you predict the top 5 to be?

    1. Well if I put my 16 year old hat on...
      1. Vance Joy - Riptide (sticking with my guns)
      2. Daft Punk - Get Lucky
      3. Lorde - Royals
      4. Haim - The Wire
      5. Arctic Monkeys - Why'd you only call me when you're high?

      Although as you know I'm not down with the Australian hip hop scene so not sure how big the likes of Bliss n Eso and Illy were this year - they might get a mention!
